Lightning strikes Hyde Park home, causes $100,000 estimated damages


As heavy showers and thunderstorms fell across the area Friday night, a Hyde Park home was struck by lightning.

Fire crews responded to the St. Charles Place residence around 7 p.m., according to officials. Smoke was reportedly coming from the roof of the two-story home. 

Officials said the occupants of the home were alerted of the fire by neighbors and had exited the building prior to the arrival of the fire department. 

A firefighter sustained a minor shoulder injury while putting out the blaze but no one else was hurt, said officials. 

Reports showed the damage is estimated at $100,000.
