The trial date was set Tuesday for Nov. 16 for the suspect accused of kidnapping a mentally disabled man in a carjacking earlier this year.

William E. Sellers remains locked up in the Campbell County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond following his Jan. 21 arrest. He faces charges of kidnapping, robbery, wanton endangerment and theft by unlawful taking.

Newport police say he sparked a seven-hour manhunt by carjacking a mini-van after stealing a carton of cigarettes at gunpoint from Remke Market off Carothers Road. He kidnapped a mentally disabled man in the vehicle, Clifford Dragoo, 51.

Witnesses tried to stop Sellers, but he took off with the vehicle and Dragoo, who was found safe a short time later in the back of the van near Logan and Green streets in Over-the-Rhine.

A bystander to the crime, Zach Carpenter, shot a video that was quickly posted to YouTube.

In the video, witnesses tussle with the suspect as he carjacked Dragoo's van before speeding off with his mentally disabled son inside.
