Reporter Quits

Talon News site closes to re-evaluate operations

The conservative online news outlet that employed a reporter who came under scrutiny for asking the president a loaded question has shut down. The publicist for Talon News says it has temporarily gone offline because the founder "can only take so much of a beating" over its political slant. The agency came under fire after a question at a White House news conference from its Washington correspondent James Guckert, who wrote under the name Jeff Gannon. Speaking of Democrats, he asked President Bush how he would work "with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality." Guckert later resigned. And the publicist says the controversary has drawn many people to the site and that "the attention by and large was negative."
