CPS holds information sessions on magnet school application

Cincinnati Public Schools’ officials will hold five Magnet Application Information Sessions this month to provide information about CPS’ new Magnet School Lottery.

CPS will begin using an online lottery system in October to award seats in its magnet elementary schools for the 2016-17 school year.

The Cincinnati Board of Education voted August 10 to suspend for a year the district’s long-standing policy of assigning magnet school seats on a first-come basis.

In the past, that led to parents camping out for weeks in snow and rain to try to enroll their children at Fairview-Clifton German Language School.

The district officials and board members say they will continue work on creating a new magnet application policy for future years.

The information sessions about the new Magnet School Lottery will be held at the following locations, all starting at 6 p.m.:

  • Wednesday: CPS Education Center, Banquet Room, 2651 Burnet Avenue (45219)
  • Thursday: Walnut Hills High School, auditorium, 3250 Victory Parkway (45207)
  • Tuesday: Sheakley Boys & Girls Clubs (Price Hill), 4100 Glenway Avenue (45205)
  • Sept. 17 — Woodward Career Technical High School, 7005 Reading Road (45237)
  • Sept. 24 — Price Hill Recreation Center, 959 Hawthorne Avenue (45205)
