Hospital's treatment of Michael Jackson blamed by grandmother's family for her death
Michael Jackson and the hospital where he was treated for the flu could face a lawsuit from the family of an elderly woman who died after allegedly being moved to accommodate him.
Jackson's publicist says the threat is "outrageous" and that the singer had no control over hospital procedures. The family of 74-year-old Manuela Gomez Ruiz told ABC's "Good Morning America" that she was moved from Marian Medical Center's primary trauma room to a smaller room ten days ago so that Jackson could have the larger room. Ruiz's family says she died after having two more heart attacks following her move.
The hospital says patient privacy laws prevent it from commenting on the charges, but officials defend their treatment procedures. Barbara County Superior Court in Santa Maria, Calif., Friday, February 25, 2005.
