UC holds inaugural stair run in honor of 9/11

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) -

An inaugural stair run is underway at the University of Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium to commemorate 9-11.

It's being put on by UC's Veterans Programs & Services Office and UC Army & ROTC.

The stair run is in memory of the more than 400 first responders and nearly 3,000 people who died on 9-11.

Participants are challenged to climb 2,071 steps in 56 minutes, which is symbolic of the 110 floors of each of the world trade center towers.

The event was timed earlier Friday morning than the actual events but but in recognition of the specific moments of 9-11.

A scholarship drive will be held during the event to honor the memory of Army Master Sgt. Corey Hood.

There will be also a fund honoring the West Chester parachutist who died last month during a performance of the Chicago Air and Water show.
