CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto received a two-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his inappropriate actions following his ejection in the bottom of the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ball Park.

Votto was thrown out of Wednesday night's game after going on a tirade about a strike.

He thought the pitch was outside, but the empire disagreed.

Votto had to be restrained by teammates and umpire before leaving.

His suspension had been scheduled to begin Friday when the Reds continue their home series against the St. Louis Cardinals.  However, he has elected to file an appeal.

According to representatives, the discipline issued to Votto will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
