First-ever World Play-Doh Day celebrates creativity Sept. 16

FOX19 -

This year marks the first-ever World Play-Doh Day on September 16 to inspire artists from across the globe to pop open a can and get creative.

Hasbro has celebrated the recognized 'National' Play-Doh day since 2006, but the excitement around the childhood staple has grown beyond national barriers, the company said.

World Play-Doh Day fun facts:

  • Two billion Play-Doh cans have been sold since 1956. That's enough to reach the moon and back three times.
  • Four colors started it all: red, blue, yellow and white. Now the Play-Do brand has over 50 colors.
  • The Play-Doh brand was born in 1956.
  • There are three main ingredients in the compound: water, flour and salt.
  • You would need more than 631 million Play-Doh cans to circle all the way around the world.
  • 172 pennies can fit into one PLay-Doh can.
  • Play-Doh was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1998.
