Rodent droppings, bed bug infestations force health department to close Florence hotel

A series of health violations forced the Northern Kentucky Health Department to close the Florence Inn hotel.

The violations found during the inspection ranged from water stained ceilings and walls, to rodent droppings and bed bug infestations.

Director of Environmental Health and Safety Steve Divine said they suspended the owner's permit to operate the hotel and gave him plenty of time to fix the violations.

According to a conference report obtained by FOX19 NOW, the investigation of the facility on April 2 debited both critical and non-critical violations resulting in a score of 74%.

Sridhar Kadaba is the owner of the inn located at 8049 Dream St. in Florence, Kentucky and stated that he had been operating as an absentee owner and was unaware of the condition of his property and that his partner had taken care of the day to day running of the facility.

Reports showed that he inferred he could not find honest contractors in the area to make the repairs of the hotel.

A conference was held June  “They were given two months to make those corrections and those corrections weren't made when we went back out to do the follow up inspections, and the owner had stated he would be able to do those in two months,” said Divine. “It was actually his timetable.”
The Florence police department went door to door at the hotel Monday afternoon making sure there were no remaining residents.
Now many residents are unsure of where they are going to live because some can't afford to pay any more money.
"Now I'm like stuck because I have nowhere to go," said another former resident Stephanie Shilton.

Some families did receive help from a social service agency that was one scene Monday afternoon, but that help may not come soon enough.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department said the owner would have to meet all the requirements before any of these residents could call the Florence Inn home again.
