DAYTON, KY (FOX19) -

A new daytime curfew has been voted into law for this Northern Kentucky city.

The new law requires school-age children ages 6 to 18-years old, be in school during the hours and days that their school is in session.

The penalty for violating this is considered a class B misdemeanor. The city says it’s had had a problem with juveniles that had been suspended from school walking the streets and getting into trouble during the day.

Students who violate the daytime curfew can be arrested and transported to their home, to a parent or guardian, or back to school. In addition, police officers may cite parents, guardians and juveniles, and the court may impose sanctions.

The codes department also hopes to allow the people to report code violations on line.

Council members say they would like to see the forms online made anonymous.

This new ordinance officially goes into effect Sept. 24 after its formally advertised.
