DRY RIDGE, KY (FOX19) -

Sonja Russel says that she was caught by surprise when she heard a commotion.

"I hear my niece screaming in terror,” said Russel. So I opened my door, and when I did I saw two people with mask on. I said get off her and no sooner than I said that I got shot right here"

She was hit in the head by the bullet and flown via AirCare to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

“They told me if it would have been a fingertip more, I would have been dead," said Russel.

The nightmare has not ended for Russel or her family. They’ve since moved from Grant County and Russel says she's outraged at charges and continues to live in fear. She fears this won't be their last attack.

“If he did it that easily, he's going to do it to someone else,” said Russel. “I have no doubt in my mind. "

All 5 suspects will be sentence on Oct. 14.
