Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds announced Wednesday he is running for the U.S. House seat John Boehner is leaving at the end of the month.

Reynolds officially joined the race by holding a "Congress Campaign Announcement" at "Reynolds for Congress Campaign Headquarters" on Cincinnati-Dayton Road.

The Republican has been the county's auditor since 2008 and most recently won re-election in 2014 with more than 71 percent of the vote.

Republican state Sen. Bill Beagle of Tipp City joined the 8th District race last week.  Troy teacher J.D. Witteregg also is running after a 2014 primary challenge to Boehner, who is stepping down Oct. 30 from the speakership and the congressional seat he first won in 1990.

A large field is expected in the Republican-dominated district. West Chester Township Trustee President George Lang told FOX19 NOW last week he may run. He reiterated that on Wednesday morning, saying he is still considering it.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones considered throwing his hat into the ring, but he announced on Friday he will remain at the sheriff's office.

Special election dates have not been set.
