Hunting bin Laden

Osama bin Laden still Public Enemy number one and still on the loose

Fresh indications this week that Osama bin Laden is still trying to stir up trouble are calling into question US efforts to track him down.

Army General John Abizaid says the military is better at attacking the al-Qaida network than looking for a specific fugitive. Abizaid heads the US Central Command which runs the show in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Experts say there is no doubt the Bush administration still wants bin Laden "dead or alive." But the mission may lack the needed resources. One ex-official says troops were pulled off the hunt in January to help with elections in Iraq and it's not clear if they've gone back.

US officials tend to agree with the recent assessment of Pakistan's president that bin Laden's trail has simply "gone cold."
