CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Following a 23-14 season that landed Xavier in the Sweet 16, the Musketeers have been picked to finish fourth in the Big East Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Villanova was voted as the unanimous preseason favorite.

“We had the second-best league RPI-wise in the country last season,” said Xavier head coach Chris Mack. “Every game on the Big East schedule is a tough matchup. Villanova is still the team to beat until someone proves otherwise, but you have to be ready every single night.”

Xavier also brought home a couple of preseason honors from the Big East media days in New York.

Jalen Reynolds, a 6-10 junior forward who was a 2015 Big East All-Tournament selection, was named to the All-Big East preseason first team. Reynolds averaged 12 points per game in the posteason last year for the Muskies.

“Jalen has as much potential as any guy I’ve coached,” said Mack.

Trevon Bluiett, a 6-6 sophomore guard was named All-Big East preseason honorable mention. Bluiett is XU’s leading returning scorer after averaging 11 points per game last year.

Xavier hosts Northwood for an exhibition game on November 7th at Cintas Center. The regular season schedule tips off against Miami (OH) on November 13th at home against the Redhawks.
