A Rising Sun police officer is facing voter fraud and forgery charges after allegedly forging signatures on absentee ballots and turning them in to the clerk's office, according to Indiana State Police.

Lowell Ross Colen, 42, is facing 13 felony charges including ghost employment, official misconduct, forgery and voter fraud.

Colen allegedly influenced individuals to vote in the 2015 primary elections in Ohio County by filling out absentee applications and ballots for individuals who were not eligible to vote in the county, according to state police.

Investigators say Colen would then forge signatures on the ballots and submit them to the Ohio County Clerk's Office.

According to state police, Colen would be in his police uniform and on duty as a Rising Sun police officer when some of the activity occurred.

Colen has been a Rising Sun police officer since April of 2015, according to the department's official website. The bio states that he had previously served as deputy sheriff with the Ohio County Sheriff's Department and is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
