Police search for suspect in sexual assault caught on surveillance

Cincinnati Police have released surveillance photos of a man who they say grabbed a woman in a parking lot and then sexually assaulted her. The incident reportedly happened near the busy intersection of Ridge Avenue and Mapleleaf Avenue in Pleasant Ridge.

Folks living in the apartment buildings nearby say they were sitting out on their porch on the night of the incident when the victim suddenly ran up to them.

“I know the lady because she lives in this building. She came up and said, ‘Gloria, I just got raped,’” said Gloria Atkins, who lives in the apartment building close to the parking lot where the assault took place. “I asked her if she had called police already and she said yes.”

On Friday, Cincinnati Police released surveillance photos and surveillance video that captured a few of the fleeting moments that led up to that horrendous incident.

“Police told us that the guy tries to get you to come toward him by being nice to you,” said Shatri McQueen, who also lives in the apartment building. “They said that what he does is he'll be nice to you and comes up to you and then when he's near you, he’ll grab you”

As the surveillance photos show that seems to be what happened here. In the photos, you can see the man following the victim before grabbing her arms and forcing her to the side of the building.

“The lady over there saw everything,” Gloria Atkins told us. “She was in her kitchen and she saw him grab her, snatch her bag, and pull her down to the ground and everything.”

After the assault, the man took off, running right passed the Gloria Atkins’ apartment building, said police.

“A guy came around the corner over here and started running and ran right past us all the way up there. We saw him but we didn’t know what he was running for until we figured it out what happened,” Atkins explained.

So far, the man hasn’t been caught, leaving neighbors on edge.

“I don't go outside at night unless I am with my fiancé, I used to but not anymore, I don't think it's safe anymore,” said Atkins. Shatri McQueen agrees. “I didn’t worry about coming outside or anything like that but now I do since that happened.”

Cincinnati Police now need your help in the hopes that you may recognize this man who committed such an unthinkable act.

“I'm not going to go anywhere by myself at night knowing that he is still out there so that's a scary feeling,” Atkins told us.

Police tell us the man ran away after the assault happened and the Cincinnati Police Personal Crimes Unit needs your help to get a close look at the man in these surveillance photos to see if you possibly recognize him.

The suspect is described as being around 5’3, 160 pounds with brown eyes.
