Sheriff's office ID's man, 20, killed in Hebron crash

The Boone County Sheriff's Office identified Tuesday the 20-year-old motorist killed in a three-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 275 early Monday as Thomas White of Aurora, Indiana.

Excessive speed is a factor in a fatal crash that closed the highway for several hours overnight, according Major Tom Scheben, sheriff's spokesman.

White lost control of his westbound 2003 Honda Civic between North Bend Road and KY-8 about 7:50. Sunday, a prepared statement reads.

The vehicle hit the guardrail on the right side of the road, causing heavy damage to the Honda, Scheben wrote. At some point, White was thrown from the vehicle.

A 2010 Lexus RX5 operated by Vy Le, 33 of Seymour, Indiana, struck the Honda and White, who was lying in the road, dragging both for about 30 yards, Scheben said.

A third vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Richard Craig of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, reportedly struck debris or some part of the secondary collision, according to Scheben.

Passengers in the Lexus include Baongoc Than, 28 of Florence and a 2-month-old infant.

It appears excessive speed by the driver of the Honda is a factor in the crash, Scheben said.

The westbound lanes were completely shut down until 1:00 a.m. while the collision was investigated.
