Services Tuesday for Hamilton sergeant killed in off-duty crash

The visitation and funeral took place Tuesday for a police veteran of this Butler County city who died in an off-duty crash last week.

Hamilton Police Sgt. Gerald "Jerry"  Butler's visitation was at Princeton Pike Church of God, 6101 Princeton-Glendale Road (Ohio 747) in Liberty Township.

Sgt. Butler, 55, died October 20 in a single-vehicle accident in the 6200 block of Hamilton-Richmond Road. 

The married father and grandfather had just ended his shift at 10 p.m. and was in his personal vehicle headed to his home north of Hamilton, police officials have said.

He joined the Hamilton Police Department in 1994 at the age of 34, and had a memorable career, serving as a Dare officer, vice cop, investigations detective, and patrol shift sergeant.

Sgt. Butler's funeral will be at 1 p.m., followed by a procession to Rose Hill Burial Park, 2421 Princeton Rd in Hamilton.

The route will travel south on Ohio 747 from the church, then right on Princeton Road to the cemetery entrance. 

Outside agencies are providing traffic assistance.
