WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Crashes snarled two area highways during Tuesday rainy morning's commute.

Northbound Interstate 71/75 at I-275 reopened nearly 6 hours after a FedEx truck and vehicle collided about 7:15 a.m., according to Erlanger emergency communication reports.

Fire crews worked for several minutes to extricate the driver of the Fed Ex truck from the cab. The driver and passenger were transported to the hospital and are expected to recover, police said.

Watch video shot at scene and released by Erlanger police:

Earlier, a fatal crash closed northbound I-275 past U.S. 50 near the Ohio-Indiana border around 6:30 a.m., according to Hamilton County emergency communication reports.

A driver in the southbound lanes lost control on the wet pavement and crossed into the northbound side of the interstate, the sheriff’s office reports. The 1997 Mercury Sable was then struck by an oncoming SUV.

Officials identified the driver as Christopher Turner, 35, of Forest Park. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Police say both drivers were wearing seat belts. Speed or impairment are not factors in the crash.

The southbound lanes also briefly shut down about 7:50 a.m. before reopening just after 8 a.m.

Overall, several crashes were reported all across the Tri-State, including ones that caused delays on eastbound Fort Washington Way at I-471 and southbound I-71 at Dana Avenue.
