Police: Pregnant teen hit while walking to school

A 16-year-old pregnant student is expected to recover after she was hit while walking to school early Monday, police officials said.

The teen was headed toward Mt. Healthy Jr./Sr. High School when she was struck on the sidewalk by a motorist pulling a 2008 red Kia slowly out of a convenience store parking lot off Hamilton Avenue near Adams Road about 7:40 a.m., said Police Chief Vince Demasi.

The girl fell into the street, suffering non-life threatening injuries, he said.

She teen was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center as a precaution due to her pregnancy and is expected to recover.

The motorist, identified as David Bode,58, of Mt. Healthy, told officers he didn't see the teen because she "was in his blind spot," Demasi said.

Bode stopped immediately and fully cooperated with officers.

He was cited for failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian, a minor traffic misdemeanor.

Southbound Hamilton Avenue was shut down for about 30 minutes while police investigated. It has since reopened.
