Consider This: Voter engagement

FOX19 -

Election Day has come and gone--and once again, voters were asked to weigh in on some pretty important issues.

Voters in Kentucky chose their new Governor.  And, Ohio decided that Marijuana should not be legalized.

If you look at how many people actually voted, the sad fact is that only a small percentage of the people made the effort.  Meanwhile, millions of people are willing to vote for contestants on 'American Idol' or 'Dancing with the Stars'.

Turnout isn't the only problem. In Ohio, results were delayed because of technical problems. Critics say it's because of inadequate training and testing when they tried to introduce iPads!

We have to figure out how to make it easier to vote or people just aren't going to do it. In some states, you can renew your auto tags online through the state system. Couldn't we use something like that to vote online? Other states push early voting ballots that are sent to a voter's home.  Ballots can be returned in the mail or to polling place on Election Day.

Consider this. Our welfare isn't a category on Jeopardy. Votes impact our lives. Let's put down the remote and figure out a way to get voters more engaged.
