Police: Florence Speedway robbed at knifepoint

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Police said they searched early Friday for a man armed with a knife who robbed Speedway gas station, 7690 Burlington Pike.

Officers responded to a hold-up alarm at 3:23 a.m., according to Boone County emergency communication reports.

When they arrived, they concluded a suspect who covered his face had fled with an undetermined amount of cash from the register, said Florence police Sgt. Pat Taylor.

The man was last seen running from the business in an unknown direction, he said.

No one was hurt.

Police called a K-9 to scour the area, but the dog was unable to pick up the suspect's trail due to heavy rain.

The suspect is described as white, 6 feet tall and in his 20s. He wore a black coat and had plastic bags covering his feet.

Surveillance images will be available later Friday morning, Taylor said.
