A Cincinnati man accused of putting his alligator up for sale online appeared in court Friday.
James Sweet, 50, admitted to trading the alligator on Craigslist in exchange for a snake and aquarium, court documents state.
Ohio classifies alligators as “dangerous wild animals” and requires owners apply for a permit from the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
Sweet did not have a permit for the alligator, according to court documents.
The Ohio Dangerous Wild Animal Act forbids the sale of alligators.
Sweet faces one charge of possession of an alligator and one charge of transfer or ownership of an alligator.
He returns to court Nov. 30.
