First CFD African-American female lieutenant reports for duty

OAKLEY, OH (FOX19) - The first African-American female lieutenant reported to duty for the first time Monday for the Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD).

Falencia Frazier, a 15-year veteran of the CFD , will serve as a traveling lieutenant in District 4.  She's spending her first tour as a first line supervisor of Ladder Company 31 in Oakley.

"Today would be an exciting day no matter who I was. But it's a little more exciting – and I feel a little more proud – because I'm a woman," said Lt. Frazier, in a statement Monday.

Frazier follows in the footsteps of three other females in the history of the CFD: Linda Pope (promoted May, 1998), Emma Unzicker (promoted April, 2001), and Melissa Arnold (promoted August, 2011).  In addition to being the fourth female to be promoted to Lieutenant, she is the first African-American female to serve in this rank.

"I'm proud to be part of the tradition of proud female firefighters with the Cincinnati Fire Department," Frazier said.
