WALTON, KY (FOX19) -
A Northern Kentucky man is accused of causing the death of his girlfriend's infant son.
On Nov. 5, Boone County Sheriff's deputies and E.M.S. were dispatched to a home on Calle Victoria Lane in Walton, Ky. for a 7 week old infant who reportedly had stopped breathing, according to Boone County Sheriff's spokesman Tom Scheben.
The infant was being cared for by 23-year-old Cody Phelps, the mother's boyfriend, who claimed he was changing the infant's diaper when the child quit breathing, Scheben said.
Officials transported the infant to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, where he was pronounced dead.
Phelps was arrested Saturday afternoon by sheriff's detectives. Police charged him with manslaughter and criminal abuse in the death of the child after determining the cause of death was from severe head trauma and broken bones, according to investigators.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Boone District Court on Monday at 8:30 a.m.
