Bond set at $1.5 million in Walnut Hills homicide

Cincinnati police said they arrested the suspect charged with shooting and killing a man and wounding an innocent bystander earlier this year.

William Brunner, 27, was booked into the Hamilton County jail just on murder and felonious assault charges just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, jail records show.

His bond was set at $1.5 million in a brief court appearance Thursday.

According to court records, Brunner is accused of purposely shooting and killing Melvin Campbell as he walked away in the 800 block of Oak Street about 7 p.m. on March 31.

He also is charged with shooting John Canty as he walked to his car, records state. At the time of the double shooting, police described Canty as an innocent bystander.

The charges are based on crime scene processing, witness interviews, positive identification of Brunner by eyewitnesses and phone records, police wrote in court records.
