HEBRON, KY (FOX19) -

Two teenagers are charged with breaking into a church and stealing the safe.

Karl Bednarik, 18, of Norton, Ohio, and Andrew Mason, 19, of Medina, Ohio, were arrested lying in the brush in the 3600 block of Idlewild Road early Thursday, according to a prepared sheriff's statement.

A Burlington resident on Idlewild Road woke to the sound of banging and the slight of flashlights from an adjacent, unoccupied residene, wrote sheriff's spokesman Major Tom Scheben.

Deputies found a pickup truck, flashlight, a demolished safe and, eventually with the help of Florene police's canine team, "two crooks lying in the brush," Scheben wrote.

Authorities determined the safe belonged to Sand Run Baptist Church on North Bend Road in Hebron.

Both teens admitted to breaking into the church about 1:30 a.m. and removing the safe, Scheben wrote in the statement.

He said they also broke into an unattached building and stole the tools - a hammer and crowbar - to break into the safe.

From there, they drove to Idlewild Road, where they cracked the safe.

Bednarik and Mason are held at the Boone County jail on charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, tampering with evidence and criminal trespass.
