CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A high-speed police chase ended with the crash of a stolen car, causing some frightening moments for some motorists in downtown Cincinnati during the lunchtime rush Friday.

Police say they began chasing the car after it was stolen in Newport.

The driver fled into Cincinnati across the Taylor Southgate Bridge and hit two cars before crashing into a parking meter at Eighth and Broadway streets downtown, police said.

Hot dog vendor, John Steffens, says he saw the driver later identified as Lamon Tolbert try to flee.

“Tries to run across the street, the officer pulls in front of him from doing speeding and just like hits him with a taser and he tries to fight. Still trying to fight after getting tased,” Tolbert said.

During the foot chase Newport police say Tolbert tossed a bag of what police believe to be crack cocaine behind benches.

Tiffany Lawrence-Glenn was driving her Jeep East on 7th street, but when she passed through the intersection of Broadway the crash happened.

“As I was crossing through the intersection I got hit by a vehicle going pretty fast speed. I didn't see much after that except police chasing after the vehicle,” Lawrence-Glenn said.

Five stories above street level Charles Bilby was working construction when he says he heard the commotion.

“We just heard sirens and looked down to a guy come blowing through the intersection and the lady hit him head on. He ran into a parked car got out and ran a couple of blocks,” Bilby said.

Tolbert faces a number charges including, driving a stolen vehicle and fleeing from police, police said.
