NKU basketball player suspended after being arrested for suspected DUI

A Northern Kentucky University men's basketball player has been suspended from the team indefinitely after being arrested for suspected DUI.

The school confirms it took disciplinary action against Todd Johnson, 22, for violating the athletic policy.

On Nov. 28, a police officer followed Johnson, of Elkhart, Ind., on Nunn Drive after the officer observed Johnson's rear license plate wasn't illuminated, according to the police report. Johnson was pulled over on Meadow Trail Drive after he allegedly could not maintain the lane.

The reporter officer had Johnson take a sobriety test, but he did not pass it  and was placed under arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the police report.  Johnson was transported to the Newport Police Department where had a BAC of .154.

While waiting to go into the sally port of the Campbell County Detention Center, Johnson allegedly asked an officer if he could give him money to be let go so he could walk home and not say anything about the situation, the police report said. 

Johnson will be back in court for a preliminary hearing in Campbell County court on Dec. 17.
