WINTON HILLS, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati police said a 3-year-old boy witnessed a shooting during a drug deal overnight.

The toddler was not hurt, said Lt. Tim Brown, the night chief.

An 18-year-old man told police he was in an apartment on Craft Street “to buy weed” about 12:30 a.m. Thursday when a man with marijuana arrived but then shot him in the groin and hip, Brown said.

The shooting occurred during the drug deal, Brown said, and was witnessed by the 3-year-old.

The victim was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He is talking to the police and expected to recover, Brown said.

The suspect is a man in his 20s. He fled the scene and remains at large. His description was not available.

Police carried the 3-year-old out of the apartment and interviewed the toddler, Brown said.

Afterward, they turned the youngster over to his mother, who was not present when the shooting occurred, according to Brown.
