A beloved North College Hill teacher and football coach has lost his battle with cancer, North College Hill City Schools announced on Thursday.
The North College Hill community rallied around Bruce Baarendse, a North College Hill alum, as he fought the illness over the last couple of months.
Baarendse earned 11 varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball while at North College Hill and played football at the University of Cincinnati.
In 1983, "Coach B" returned to North College Hill to teach. He spent his entire 32-year career at North College Hill City School District, mostly teaching health and physical education.
"Coach B" coached football, basketball, baseball, track and softball at points throughout his 32 years with the Trojans. He was named head football coach in 1986, and he held the position for 29 years. The Trojans went 170-119 during his tenure as head coach. In 2001, he was the first North College Hill coach to lead his team to the OHSAA football playoffs.
The school district said visitation and funeral services are pending at this time.
