Officials seek Verona bank robbery suspect

VERONA, KY (FOX19) -

Officials are seeking the whereabouts of a man who allegedly robbed a U.S. Bank in Verona, Ky.

The lone gunman robbed the U.S. Bank, on Walton Verona Road, Wednesday at approximately 4:10 p.m., according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office. The suspect took an undetermined amount of cash from the teller.

As the suspect approached the teller and brandished what appeared to be a semi-auto pistol, he apologized saying he had to do it because his kid had been kidnapped, Boone County Sheriff's spokesman Tom Scheben said. 

Authorities describe the suspect as a white male, 30 to 40s in age. around five feet eight to 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 140 to 170 pounds.  He was wearing a dark coat over a gray hooded sweatshirt, clinched tight around his face and dark gray pants.  

Police say a person in a car described as a maroon Toyota Camry was waiting to drive suspect gunman away.  

A representative from the bank said the car sounded like it had exhaust issues or engine trouble as it accelerated from the parking lot, according to Boone County Sheriff's office.  The car was seen turning onto Lebanon Crittenden Road.

U.S. Bank is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible.
