MT. AUBURN, OH (FOX19) -

A 911 caller told authorities the driver suspected of striking and killing a participant in the 7 Hills Run/Walk Sunday ripped the license plates off his vehicle before running away.

"Please hurry, she's really hurt," said the caller in a recording released Monday.

"On Dorchester and the car that hit her, what color and make was it?" the dispatcher responded.

"No! It's a Cadillac they ripped the license plates off and ran away," the caller said.

The driver is described as a man in his 20s who wore a blue plaid shirt and blue pants with light colored stripes.

He ran down Dorchester Avenue and remains at large.

The participant, Catherine Chatfield, 57, died at University of Cincinnati Medical Center shortly after a 2005 Chrysler 300 jumped the curb and hit her on the sidewalk on Dorchester Avenue near Reading Road about 9 a.m.

“This is tragic and our hearts and prayers go out to the victims family and friends," City Manager Harry Black said Sunday. "I have been in contact with (Cincinnati police) throughout the morning and they are taking every step possible to thoroughly investigate this case."

Black said police were pursuing the male suspect who fled.  Officers also questioned a female passenger in the vehicle.

Mayor John Cranley called the incident "a terrible tragedy."

"The City of Cincinnati extends its condolences to the victim's family and friends during this difficult time," he said. "It is a jarring reminder about how fleeting life can be."
