The Wyoming Police Department is investigating at least two cases where someone stole a package right off the victim’s front porch.
The two instances occurred on Dec. 18 on Mt. Pleasant Ave. and Compton Rd.
The police chief in Wyoming said if they catch the suspects they'll be spending part of the holiday season in jail. Online buying and home delivery is so popular these days that it's a perfect target for thieves.
“This time of year everybody's receiving packages so you have people out there looking for packages on porches and then they go up and try to snag them," said. Lt. Rusty Herzog of Wyoming PD.
Resident Nancy Kopp said she can’t believe how brazen criminals have become.
“I got excited because it’s a toy for my granddaughter,” said Kopp whose package was allegedly swiped. “Someone would have to park and walk up here to get it and that's kind of bold"
Wyoming has not been the only target. Finneytown has received reports of the same activity.
“I really can't believe people would stoop so low to take Christmas presents off of porches,” said Kopp.
Police ask residents in neighborhoods to have each other’s backs.
“The residents are the best people on the street to keep an eye out for their neighbor,” said Herzog. “Look for anything suspicious. If they see somebody going up on a porch who doesn't live there, give us a call and let us know."
Authorities said another line of defense is to use tracking services provided by most companies so you know exactly when the package is due to arrive.
