Cincinnati City Council passed an ordinance Wednesday to divide Over-The-Rhine into two entertainment districts to make 15 more liquor licenses available.
The change creates an "OTR West Community Entertainment District" and the "OTR East Community Entertainment District" with Vine Street as the dividing line.
The "West" District goes from West Central Parkway, all the way north to past West McMicken Avenue, and from Central Parkway east to Vine Street.
The "East" District goes from East Central Parkway, all the way north near West Clifton Avenue, and from Vine Street east to Sycamore Street.
"An ordinance is necessary to ensure that the State of Ohio properly recognizes and designates the modified Community Entertainment Districts for purposes of Ohio Division of Liquor Control regulation," official documents stated.
Fifteen liquor licenses are allowed per district and the number would double the current total to 30.
"This ordinance shall be an emergency measure necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and general welfare," stated Mayor John Cranley.
Over-the-Rhine reached their limit of 15 liquor permits earlier this year.
