A motorist faces an aggravated vehicular homicide charge after authorities say he caused a head-on crash that killed a woman's unborn child.

Leonard T. Kersey, 19, caused the death of "Baby Thomas" on Nov. 4, Delhi Township police wrote in court records.

When Kersey made his first court appearance Friday morning, attorneys said he fell asleep, crossed the line and hit a vehicle head-on, resulting in the accident.

The accident happened in the 5400 block of Delhi Road around 6:45 a.m. Kersey was on his way home from work, according to Delhi Township police Lt. Jeff Braun.

“It’s just one of those crashes where, you know, it’s a tragedy that it happened. It’s one of those things where it could happen to any of us,” said Lt. Braun.

A judge set Kersey’s bond at $10,000 cash.
