EAST PRICE HILL (FOX19) -

A store clerk who Cincinnati police said shot a would--be robber at a West 8th Street store over the weekend said he did it to teach the suspect a lesson.

Mohammad Abdelwhed shot Ronald Collins in the back during an attempted robbery at G&J Market about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Abdelwhed, whose customers know him as Mo, said the man who robbed him at gun point did the same thing two weeks ago.

He said a customer had just walked out of the store on Sunday when the suspect returned.

"As soon as the customer left, the door opened again and he walked in with a gun like this and he was pointing at me like this, he said 'like last time,'" stated Abdelwhed. "I said 'ok, come around and get whatever you want.'"

FOX19 NOW asked Abdelwhed why he shot Collins, if he was already leaving.

"You did me first, it was my bad but now you did it twice, it's your bad suffer the consequences," Abdelwhed explained. "And I pray to God that nothing happens to him and I want him to live and I want him to learn from this experience. And maybe, and maybe he will learn."

Collins was charged with aggravated robbery.

A second man, Adrian Edmunson, was charged with tampering with evidence. Police say he picked Collins up as Collins fled the market.

Investigators said Collins was alert and taking to officials in the ambulance that took him to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The store clerk will not be charged, officials said.
