CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A 27-year police veteran was sworn in as the department's 15th chief Monday after filling the role on an interim basis.

Eliot Isaac was named acting chief after Jeffrey Blackwell's ouster in September.

The public swearing-in ceremony for the 49-year-old Cincinnati native was held at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

City Manager Harry Black, who will administer the oath, will be joined by Mayor John Cranley, City Council members and other community leaders.

Isaac has wide experience in the police agency over nearly three decades and has worked in virtually every section: administration, patrol command, internal investigations, problem solving and community engagement. Most recently, he served as Executive Assistant Police Chief.

He is expected to discuss, among topics, how he plans to participate with the mayor and city manager in a series of community meetings early next year

The men are working to combat crime in local neighborhoods. They also will talk about the uptick in shootings and solicit input from citizens about the issue.
