A Dearborn County man is now facing 50 years in prison after being convicted of Conspiracy to Commit Dealing Heroin, according to Prosecuting Attorney Aaron Negangard.
John M. Smith was convicted of a heroin trafficking after a female co-conspirator was pulled over during a traffic stop where a trooper found three kilograms of heroin located in a rental car rented by Smith, according to Negangard.
Investigators say Smith's fingerprints were located on the wrapper of heroin.
He will spend the maximum sentence of 50 years at the Indiana Department of Correction.
Smith is already serving a federal sentence out of the Northern District of Illinois for heroin dealing, Negangard said.
