A New Year’s Eve crash that left two people dead remains under investigation by the Independence Police Department.
The accident happened on Highway 17 near Pelly Road Thursday night, officials say.
Ella McNay, 24, and David McNay, 31, were killed. The driver of the second vehicle, Mark Huffman, 57, was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to officials.
Police said Huffman failed to negotiate a left-hand turn on to Pelly Road and struck the McNay’s vehicle head-on.
Ella McNay was pronounced dead at the scene. David was flown to UC where he succumbed to his injuries.
Ella and David were husband and wife and left behind two children, according to a Go Fund Me set up for the couple’s burial expenses.
On Monday, Independence police said the investigation remained in “extremely early stages.” Officials have not said if impairment was a factor in the crash.
Huffman was listed in critical condition at UC hospital.
