Xavier's Edmond Sumner has been placed under concussion protocol the team announced after Saturday's game.
Sumner was taken off the court on a stretcher after a hard foul during Thursday's game at Villanova.
Mack told local media Friday that his starting point guard was not under concussion protocol. Sumner did not play in Xavier's 19-point win over the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday.
The reigning Big East Freshman Player of the Week did not participate in Friday's practice, but watched on the side.
Sumner was driving to the basket when he collided with Villanova defenders and crashed to the court. He was on his back and didn't move for several minutes until he finally raised his knees.
Mack, trainers and teammates checked on Sumner. Mack told the media that Sumner was squeezing his hands and moving his legs.
He was released from the hospital Thursday evening and flew back to Cincinnati with the team.
