MORROW, OH (FOX19) -

The search effort continued Saturday morning for an army veteran that a person of interest and listed as a "critical missing person" after a fire in Morrow last week.

Aaron Berns, 27, was last seen near the scene of the fire on Miranda St. near Main St., officials said.

A search will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Little Miami Family Church.

An initial search was conducted following the incident in the Little Miami River where police believe Berns jumped in the water, Warren Co. Dispatch confirms.

"They tried to have communication with him, but he was evasive and not really cooperative and at one point he actually took off and fled on foot," Lt. John Fain said. "He left north from the yard he was in which is actually adjacent to the river right there and he actually jumped into the river as the deputies were chasing him."

Berns is considered a person of interest in the fire and listed as a critical missing person, according to the Morrow Fire Department.

Teams searched for Berns in a four-mile area near the Little Miami River between Morrow and Lebanon.

The Army Corps of Engineers agreed to close a dam in the area which will lower the water level in the Little Miami River. Police believe the lowering of the water level will help assist in the search.

Although the official search has ended, family and friends are still working together to find Berns with a search on Saturday

Deputies reported although the search and operation phase of the investigation is completed, Berns is still considered a critical missing person, and anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Warren County Sheriff's Office at 513-695-1522.
