CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Cold weather has returned to the area, and the city of Cincinnati is turning up the heat on its winter road preparations.

As people get ready to hit the road this Monday morning, Tri-State street crews are preparing to keep them safe.

The Department of Public Safety has approximately 27,000 tons of salt on hand and a contract with North American Salt to purchase up to 40,000 tons, should the city need it.

Last winter, one of the worst local winters on record, Cincinnati used approximately 34,800 tons of salt – so it is safe to say the city is prepared for whatever storm this snow season may bring.

Cincinnati will provide regular weather status and traffic updates on the city website and various social media platforms during winter storm events.
