CHEVIOT, OH (FOX 19) -

Firefighters rescued three family pets from a burning home on New Year’s Eve.

Heavy black smoke was exiting the Herbert Ave. home when crews from Cheviot, Green Township, Miami Township and Delhi Township arrived.

The kitchen fire was quickly extinguished, but five family pets remained inside the home, according to a Facebook post from Green Township Fire and EMS.

Officials posted photos of firefighters administering oxygen to three cats after they were rescued from the heavy smoke inside the home.

“Unfortunately a fourth cat and a dog succumbed to smoke inhalation,” the post says.

It is not clear if the homeowners were around at the time of the fire.
