A southeastern Indiana man may spend the rest of his life in prison if the Dearborn County Prosecutor has his way.

Steven Joseph Rekowski, 44, of Aurora is accused of possessing pornographic pictures of himself and a 4-year-old he babysat on New Year's Eve on Pribble Circle in Lawrenceburg.

He faces two counts of child molestation and one count of child exploitation.

One of his friends discovered the pictures when she asked to use his phone, according to a sworn statement released by the prosecutors office.

Stephanie Weaver was trying to close out of an email Rekowski sent himself, the affidavit states. But one email opened, exposing five pictures of Rekowski engaging in sexual acts with the 4-year-old girl he was babysitting.

Rekowski told investigators the child was sleeping during the encounter.

Weaver he confronted Rekowski and got him to confess to the acts, according to Prosecutor Aaron Negangard.

He said Rekowski told his story to Weaver, the victims mother and investigators.

The alleged incident was reported the following day, Jan. 1.

Once Weaver figured out who was in the pictures, she convinced the suspect to tell the victims mother what happened.

The two went to the mother's home and told the woman. She became so upset, she locked Rekowski in her laundry room and called police, according to the affidavit.

The victims' mother make threats against Rekowski and urged police to come soon before she did something, a recording of the call shows.

The mother told police she had let the suspect watch her children for about two hours while she ran to the store.

Rekowski is no stranger to such charges, records show. He has at least two indecent exposure charges and a sexual assault charge in New Jersey, according to the prosecutor.

Authorities seized Rekowski's computer. We have been told it could be a few months before prosecutors know all the contents.
