CINCINNATI (FOX19) -

Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is no longer wearing a cast on his right thumb, but indications are he will not be ready to start Saturday's playoff game against Pittsburgh.

Dalton fractured his thumb against the Steelers on December 13th and has been wearing a hard cast since. He had the cast removed Monday, but said he has yet to throw a football since having the cast removed.

"I'm just sticking with the process of it," said Dalton. "I'm doing treatments and rehab. Trying to get back as soon as I can.

Dalton said the treatments focus on getting more mobility back in his thumb. But, he wouldn't say if he'll be ready for the game against Pittsburgh.

"I'm going to let this process take care of itself and keep working to try and get back as soon as I can."

Dalton joined the team on the practice field as they began work for the playoff game and even took a couple snaps during open media time - one hand-off and the other a left-handed pass. He mostly did cardio work on the side with trainers.

Marvin Lewis reiterated during his press conference the play is for A.J. McCarron to lead the team as the starting quarterback during practice this week - and most likely on Saturday night.

"We're preparing with A.J. McCarron to be the starting quarterback," said the Bengals head coach. "That's not going to change later in the week."

The Bengals play the Steelers Saturday night at Paul Brown Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:15 pm.
