Parent arrested for carrying loaded gun in school parking lot without permit

CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Clearcreek Township Police arrested a parent in possession of a loaded gun in a school parking lot on Thursday after the suspect didn't have a vaild permit, police said. 

The suspect is charged with Illegal Conveyance of a Deadly Weapon on School Premises and Improperly Handling Firearms in a Motor Vehicle after a custody issue at the Lytle Five Points School parking lot, Clearcreek Chief of John Terrill said.

Terrill said it is legal to carry a loaded weapon onto school grounds if the individual has a properly licensed Concealed Carry Weapon permit. Individuals can drive onto school property and pick up or drop off children and be in possession of a loaded weapon.

The suspect had did not possess a valid CCW permit for the gun, according to Terrill. 

Police said there was no indication the suspect intended to use the weapon on school grounds.
