CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The Browns named Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson the new head coach in Cleveland.

Jackson became the team's eighth coach since 1999 once the sides have finalized his deal, according to the Associated Press.

He replaces Mike Pettine, who was fired after going 10-22 in two seasons.

NFL Network analyst Michael Silver reported that Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis approached Jackson with a last-ditch proposal to keep him in Cincinnati, with a succession plan.

Jackson, 50, spent the past two seasons running the Bengals offense. He spent one year as the Oakland Raiders head coach in 2011, going 8-8 before being fired by new general manager Reggie McKenzie.
