A "person of interest" in a Florida missing girl case, is expected in court in Augusta, Georgia, Friday.
Law officials say John Couey was arrested there yesterday for not telling Florida officials he was leaving the state. That's a requirement for sex offenders. Central Florida officials and the FBI have been talking to him about nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford, who disappeared from her bedroom February 23rd. The Citrus County sheriff says Couey has been cooperative and officials are "building a rapport" with him. They also say he is not a suspect at this point. Couey had sometimes lived across the street from Jessica's home.
Officials say he left Florida on or about March fourth after telling relatives that police would be looking for him. Couey's criminal history includes an incident in which he broke into a home and kissed a sleeping girl while exposing himself.
