SPRINGBORO, OH (FOX19) -

Restaurant chain Max & Erma's is closing 13 Midwest locations - including one in northern Warren County - as it streamlines operations and deals with under-performing outlets, company officials announced.

Locations are shuttering in Springboro and Greenwood, Indiana, said Justin Wilson, spokesman for the chain's owner, Nashville, Tennessee-based American Blue Ribbon Holdings.

Two also shut down in Cleveland, as well as one in Toledo, he said.

The chains' website lists 51 locations in 10 states.

The restaurant specializes in burgers and beer. The first one opened in 1972 in Columbus.

The chain filed for bankruptcy protection in 2009.

American Blue Ribbon bought it the next year. The parent company also owns O'Charley's and other casual-dining chains.
